Revoltoso

A 2 minute video that explains how and why we made this film. ¡Puedes activar subtítulos en español!

We made this project to express our stand against violence. Revoltoso is a stop-motion short film that emphasizes the importance of using art as a way to stand against destruction.

It is a film about cinema itself, set on 1913 in Mexico. Jabalito, a small one-eyed boar, is on the scene of one of the first filmed wars in history: the Mexican Revolution. Of all the wild boars that inhabit Don Gonzalo’s hacienda  he is the only one not fully domesticated. He prefers to enjoy his freedom, even though everyone thinks of him as a mess. In the revolutionary confusion, Jabalito accidentally discovers a film camera.

Revoltoso is an epic little masterpiece in the precious history of Mexican animation. What the Ambriz brothers and their Cinema Fantasma team of artists and artisans have created is nothing short of miraculous. This is a window to the soul of Mexico and its revolutionary past. And like all great Mexican film and art, the short is a beautiful and melancholic reflection of our times. Viva Revoltoso!
